· Range Operator Ken Edwards is a retired 30-year veteran of the Goldsboro Police Department. He is currently a state-certified Criminal Justice Instructor, with a specialized certification in Firearms. He is also a certified NRA Handgun Instructor, and has over 20 years of experience in firearms training. He is passionately dedicated to the promotion and defense of the First and Second Amendments of the United States Constitution [see Edwards v. City of Goldsboro, 178 F. 3d 231 (1999)]. Past certifications are as Defensive Tactics Instructor, Physical Training Instructor, and Straight Baton Instructor. In 2000, Ken was awarded the NRA National Freedom Award. In 2004, he was recognized as Goldsboro Police Officer of the Year. |
Range features |

· In the construction of the range, safety was of paramount concern. Each pistol booth wall consists of an 8-inch block filled with concrete and wrapped with wood. The steel reactive range was created using ballistic steel in order to prevent dimpling of the plates or pepper poppers, thereby controlling bullet spatter. The berms that surround the range are a minimum of 14 feet high, and rise to 20 feet at the outer limits of range property. |

· Range officers are on duty at all times to ensure a safe shooting environment. |

· Hearing and eye protection, spotting scopes, lead sleds, rifle cradles, and generic nylon holsters are available for use free of charge. |
|
· Instruction on the basic fundamentals of marksmanship is available to all members free of charge. Expert long-distance rifle instruction is available to members. |
